Mount Hope Cemetery

Mount Hope Cemetery is the one currently used, but is unfortunately getting filled up.  The section for the Black community was segregated, off to one side and down a slight hill.  There are too many headstones in Mount Hope to include them all, but we have chosen some of the more interesting ones and some from the prominent citizens of the past.

Until recently the graves were dug by hand, and Harry Hill was the groundskeeper. The ground is pretty much rock in some places, so the going could be pretty tough.  Especially in the winter before there was a crypt.
