Before the Bear River Volunteer Fire Department took on the task of organizing the B.R. Cherry Carnival, the local business community sponsored it. Then as now, it took countless volunteer hours to put together this renowned festivity. Recently we received a cache of receipts from the 1928 Cherry Carnival organization…the same Cherry Carnival that is featured in the film on the main Cherry Carnival page!
- transportation for picnic parties
- it was a public meeting that night
- receipts on the back of calendar pages…the long distance telephone fees must have annoyed them.
- Who were Trimper and Jefferson?
- 26 pounds of pork for $5.00
- Very few people owned a telephone in 1927, so calls were placed from businesses that did.
- Bet they were nice!
- This is just for the shipping from St. John.
- The value of advertising
- This is for the actual fruit.
- the phone number is 7-11.
- some discrepancy with the dates
- Bananas, seven cents a pound.
- Remember when orange pineapple was an exotic flavour?
- What’s an evaporated apple?
- Remember 4% sales tax?
